About PWDCA Rescue, Inc.        www.pwdcarescue.org

PWDCA Rescue, Inc. is a nonstick, 501(c)(3) charitable corporation.  It is a separate corporation from the Portuguese Water Dog Club of America, Inc., however it has only one member and that is the Portuguese Water Dog Club of America, Inc.

Anyone wishing to support rescue operations can donate to PWDCA Rescue, Inc.  Such donations help regional clubs with fostering activities and veterinary support.  Donations may be made in memory or honor of someone very special in your life (person or dog), and a tax-deductible donation receipt will be issued to you in their honor or member by PWDCA Rescue, Inc.

The Mayflower Portuguese Water Dog Club will help owners who, for whatever reason, need to give up their dog by assessing the dog, finding a foster home and eventually finding a permanent loving new home.  We service PWD owners in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New Hampshire and will gladly assist owners in Maine and Connecticut to contact PWD regional clubs in those states.
All dogs must meet the criteria of being a purebred Portuguese Water Dog; however, often times AKC papers are not available.  PWDs with known aggressive tendencies or bite histories are NOT accepted into our program nor adopted out.

With love, attention and understanding surrendered PWDs will bond with their new owners and make wonderful companions!  We encourage anyone wishing to adopt a rescue PWD to engage in activities that can lead to bonding and hope that our training tips page will help point people to resources that may aid in this process.

Owners wishing to surrender their dog should contact their breeder first, if possible.  This should be done before Rescue is contacted.  If contacting the breeder is not a possibility, or if the breeder declines to or cannot help, then Rescue should be contacted.  Mayflower PWD's Rescue Representative is Chris Framson and can be reached at [email protected].

We do our utmost to make the best match for both the dog and the adopter.  We carefully screen prospective adopters by using questionnaires and interviews.  To be considered as a potential adopter, please visit the Adopt a Rescued PWD page of the Rescue website.
