Our board and members are committed to the health, temperament, and welfare of the breed and will try to help potential members, interested parties, and new puppy owners understand some of the challenges that come with owning your highly intelligent and eager-to-please dog.
We encourage positive training early on in a pup's life to ensure that it can become a fabulous family member. Under the Training section, we listed a number of websites that provide excellent training tips for both pet owners and people interested in training performance dogs. Because many puppy owners are unaware of the training facilities available (aside from the courses offered by commercial entities such as Petco or Petsmart), we have also included a regional listing of training facilities where one can take anything from basic manners/puppy obedience classes to highly advanced, competition level classes.
While some of our members actively show their dogs in conformation and performance events, many others simply enjoy getting together to allow the dogs to socialize or to do simple training that can translate into easier living conditions with this active breed. We try to offer events of interest to both groups of people and encourage you to attend these events.
The club offers a variety of workshops based on the interest of our members. Each year we host several events focused on water work and the skills necessary to obtain certification for PWDCA water titles. We have also offered fun matches where our members can get together to show off their dog's skills without the intense competition seen at other trials. In 2019, we obtained AKC sanctioning allowing us to host our own Regional Specialty held at the Ladies Dog Club Inc Dog Show in Wrentham, MA the first week of June. This outdoor event is fun for families to attend and cheer on their favorite pups. Upcoming events are posted on the Events section of our website with easy on-line registration available.
